Pickler lived in a difficult family. Her mother left her at the age of two to escape from an abusive relationship. Her mother returned in 1995 into her life, and she took full charge of the child. It was, however, not an enjoyable time for her. When Pickler aged 12, the court returned her to her maternal grandparents who brought her up to adulthood. With the loss of their parents Pickler became too busy being a parent to her children. The mother of three confessed to her that in absence of her parents Pickler had no time to go to school. She instead began learning how to care for her family at an earlier age. Pickler took part in cheerleading squads of both her high school and middle school. North Stanly High School, which she attended from 2004 when she graduated, was her alma mater. Pickler is also an accomplished beauty queen. She once held the title of Miss Stanly County.
