Luciana Paoluzzi was born in Rome and was raised with her family. Her dad was Manlio Paoluzzi, who was an Italian military officer. Maria Rota Paoluzzi was one of the mistresses of Benito Mussolini. It's not clear if there were any siblings. She attended a local high school, and after matriculating in 1955 she studied navy engineering at the Scientific Academy of Milan - Luciana was the sole female in her class.
